Sausage and Shrimp Jambalaya

Sausage and Shrimp Jambalaya is a classic one-pot Southern dish packed with bold flavors. Perfectly seasoned rice, tender shrimp, and smoky sausage come together with peppers, onions, and a kick of Cajun spice to create a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain rice
  • 1/2 lb (225g) smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1/2 lb (225g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup diced bell peppers (red, green, or yellow)
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (480ml) chicken broth
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

Directions:

  1. Cook Sausage: In a large pot or skillet, sauté the sliced sausage over medium heat until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: In the same pot, add onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Combine Base Ingredients: Stir in the rice, chicken broth, diced tomatoes, and Cajun seasoning. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Add Protein: Stir in the shrimp and cooked sausage. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes until the shrimp is pink and the rice is tender.
  5. Serve: Fluff the jambalaya with a fork and serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Note:

For added heat, sprinkle in red pepper flakes or serve with hot sauce on the side. Adjust Cajun seasoning to suit your spice preference.
