This Oven-Baked Chicken Parmesan is a healthier take on a classic Italian favorite! Crispy, breaded chicken breasts are baked to perfection and topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, making it a comforting and flavorful dish that’s much lighter than the traditional fried version. Perfect for an easy weeknight dinner!
Ingredients
-
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
-
1 cup breadcrumbs (or panko)
-
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
-
1 teaspoon dried oregano
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 cup marinara sauce
-
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
-
1/4 cup flour
-
2 eggs, beaten
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In one bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan, oregano, and garlic powder. In another bowl, place the flour, and in a third bowl, the beaten eggs.
-
Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then coat each in flour, dip in the egg wash, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
-
Place the coated chicken breasts on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and crispy.
-
Remove from the oven, top each piece with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese, and bake for an additional 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
