Combining the savory richness of sausage, the tender sweetness of shrimp, and perfectly seasoned rice, this dish is a Southern favorite. It’s a one-pot wonder that brings a bit of Louisiana magic to your kitchen—a perfect meal for family gatherings or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1/2 lb smoked sausage, sliced

  • 1 cup long-grain rice

  • 1 bell pepper (any color), diced

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth

  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes

  • 1 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

  • Salt, black pepper, and olive oil as needed

Directions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven. Add sausage and sauté until browned. Set aside.

  • In the same pan, sauté onions, garlic, and bell peppers until softened. Add rice, stir to coat in oil, and toast lightly for 1-2 minutes.

  • Pour in the chicken broth, tomatoes (with juices), paprika, and cayenne. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Add the shrimp and browned sausage to the pot. Cover again and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are opaque and rice is tender.
